Professional bodies

I’ve been working with a few organisations recently where an interesting situation is coming up more and more. My approach to development has, for some time now, been about self-determined learning with individuals finding the skills they need to improve their work and perform better. This approach, enabling people the space to learn is a different approach to more supply-led offers.

I’ve been seeing a bigger disconnect between the expectations of professional bodies, qualifying authorities, and certificating boards as a result. This isn’t a criticism of these organisations – their role in professionalising industries and practices is essential and should be welcomed. However, work is changing as we have discussed many times before, and there is a movement towards less structured ways of working. It begs the question, how do these organisations who act in a governance role in workplace development, react to, and act with, workplace learning developments?

Let me know your thoughts.
