Yesterday I wrote about the need to shift to demand-led approaches which respond to the three A’s of learning – Awareness, Acquisition, and Application.
Serendipitously, I was reading a chapter six in The Productivity Agenda paper which was released yesterday as part of National Productivity Week in the UK. The chapter is about skills for productivity growth and looks at how we are preparing (or not preparing) people for work in the future.
This chapter argues that the demand side of the labour market (namely the choices and actions of employers) needs to be better understood if the UK is to develop a virtuous circle between skills, productivity and living standards.
