I had a super chat with Martin Couzins last week. We chat semi-regularly and I’m always thankful for the time we spend in conversation. I enjoy catching up and chatting with people; hearing what they’re doing and being asked for advice and guidance is an immense privilege which I feel incredibly thankful for.
Something came up in our chat where we mentioned how just asking people for a quick chat is almost always answered with a yes. We feel surprised by this generosity of spirit sometimes but the evidence is clear – in practically no human society examined under controlled conditions have the majority of people consistently behaved selfishly.
We thrive because we share, not because we keep things to ourselves. This is one tenet of my approach to learning – paying it forward. There is a reason I post every day and it’s not to attract followers; it’s to put thinking, ideas and approaches out there which people can engage with, reflect upon, and use.
How do you develop this cooperative sharing in your organisations?
How do you get people to share the right thing, at the right time, to the right person?
If you want to chat about this, please get in touch.
