Workplace Learning isn’t

Like Netflix. People rarely browse learning catalogues looking for something interesting.

Like coffee. People don’t consume it as they would a food or drink. It’s rarely driven by the same kind of hunger.

Like school. We work with adults who both need advice and support but also have the ability to determine for themselves what works for them.

I love an analogy as much as the next person; indeed I’ve written about how they help me make sense of concepts and ideas. When these analogies become embedded in our practice, and we can’t speak to what we do WITHOUT them, then it becomes problematic.

    Two exceptions :-

    1. folks who like to go “on a course” as it is easier than working.
    2. folks with a manager who says “you’ve got x amount of training days to use by xx xx 20xx, so you had better find yourself a course or two to go on”.
