I am not an ally

This image shows text that reads "I AM NOT AN ALLY" in large red capital letters. Below the text is a row of blurred or out-of-focus silhouettes of people in different colours of the rainbow spectrum - including turquoise, lime green, orange, yellow, purple, pink, and blue. The blurred figures appear to be standing together in a line.

I really dislike the word ally; it creates labels which I feel uncomfortable with and feels it elevates me in a way which it shouldn’t. The work I do to support women and amplify their voices isn’t about being an ally – it’s just (to me at least) common sense. I did, however, happily agree to have a chat with Ruth Wood to talk about some of the things I do and why I do them. She recorded it and has put it on her podcast – Frustrated and Exhausted.

I love the way Ruth topped and tailed the episode. However, the whole series is a super listen so please do look for it and add it to your podcast player.
