Broken promises

Two hands reaching towards each other amid greenery, with the text "BROKEN PROMISES" overlaying the image in bold typography.

L&D vendor webinars promise outcome-led learning, then subject us to hour-long platform demos nobody asked for. We’d never design learning like that for our people, so why do we accept being sold to that way?

  1. I know I’ve commented this before, but I’ll do so again. 100% true. You’d like to think that a vendor promoting themselves on the basis of good learning practice would know and do better, but it’s surprising how often that isn’t the case. In one of my most recent experiences, I was brought in after the decision had been made, but there were early alarm bells from what I heard of the demo, borne out by Five. Separate. 2 1/2 to 3 hour. Demo. Sessions. Of training. Where we were told to go on mute, turn our cameras off, and keep all comments and questions to the end, as they couldn’t see us while they were demoing. Sadly the product in question lived up (down?) to our experiences. We did feed back, but I don’t know if our comments were heeded. And yet others do so much better, beginning not with a demo, but with genuine conversations on what your needs are, what problems you’re trying to solve, before they even think about discussing what they can do for you. I know where my money would go.
