In a many cases it’s because it has a connection of value to something in the past. It doesn’t mean it has that same value any more. I got rid of a dozen folders with OHP slides in them recently.

Hoarding and collecting are different; collecting has a value from the assembly of the items which are kept. Hoarding is getting and keeping things irrespective of their value.

The people who send dozens of LinkedIn connections are hoarders.
