I got a call from a wrong number the other day. I did a reverse lookup and found it was from a caravan park in South Wales. Since I’m not planning to caravan in South Wales, I knew this must have been a mistake.
We used to get a lot more wrong number calls in the past. Using a dial or buttons on the phones we had, we would misdial by a digit and end up speaking to the wrong person. I remember we’d get a call every 6 months or so for the Spurs’ manager’s office because our home phone number must have been similar to the number at Tottenham.
Now? Now we WhatsApp, Facetime, Zoom, Teams call, DM, text, Slack, Yammer, etc.
I miss the lucky happenstance of getting a random call from a random person. Build in time each week to have interactions where you might be connecting to the wrong people – you don’t know who you might meet or what you might learn.
