Hidden incompetence

I heard a great comment the other day:

My wife thinks I can change the oven clock but all I do is wait until midnight and switch the power off and on again

It’s a way of hiding the fact you don’t know how to do something but have a workaround. How many people in your organisation do the same and are you talking to them about their workarounds?

If something can be done simply by approaching it differently, learning need to know those ways of working as much as the expected way.
