I spent a brilliant evening with my son at the O2 last weekend for a Chemical Brothers gig. As much as we enjoyed the gig, the rituals of attending including pre and post refreshments, and travel to and from the venue are built into our relationship. I took him to his first gig about 20 years ago – when he was 8 – and we still follow some of those same routines.

One of these routines is the pre-gig chat where we just chat and get to spend real quality time together. It tends to be before – we usually have ringing ears afterwards.

Talk is incredibly cheap but of amazing value if you invest the right time in it.
