It’s not you, it’s the job

I’ve mentioned before that we focus too much on ability in learning and development. Our brief is set to the skills where people can develop but we don’t work with businesses to change the nature and design of the job enough to build capacity.

Maybe it’s being noticed now. I saw Gartner’s Top 5 HR Trends and Priorities for 2024 last week and buried within a document within a link is this nugget:

Job manageability is 5x more effective than skill proficiency in improving manager effectiveness. Improving job manageability can increase manager effectiveness by up to 21%.

Managers Are Cracking and More Training Won’t Help

Look at your learning offer and review how you can improve job manageability – if you’re not, how are you increasing manager effectiveness.
