I don’t have green fingers; everything I grow tends to die through over or under watering. I’m always amazed when something I see re-growth in the Spring from a lifeless Winter.
What makes this work is hard pruning, i.e. cutting back to create space for regrowth. Knowing what to cut, when and why is the art of the gardener.
To carry the analogy over to the workplace I’m seeing a LOT of cutting back right now. People are pulling back from projects and almost hibernating. There’s a belief the environment doesn’t feel like it’s ripe for growth so there is limited thought towards working out what it will look like in a short while.
The hard pruning a gardener does is built on planning for growth and if you work in L&D you need to know what you’re creating space for when you’re reviewing your learning support. If you want help with it, let me know.
