New and improved

The image shows a yellow background with a magnifying glass focusing on three dice that spell out "NEW." The dice have letters on them that are colored green, pink, and red.

I was facilitating a group for the second time this week and one of the participants mentioned how something I’d done in the first session on delegation had made a massive impact on their work and approach to managing their team.

It’s a simple framework to classify your workload and what needs to be delegated:

  • It’s Mine, Don’t Touch
  • It’s Mine, Do Some
  • It’s Yours, Report Regularly
  • It’s Yours, Report Exceptions
  • It’s Yours, Report Completion

I looked back on my blog posts and found I’d written about it on my blog about 12 years ago. I remember the thinking around it had come from something I’d done some 20 years before that.

Good ideas have longevity; don’t necessarily rely on the new.
