The joy of sales calls

Someone called me last week and asked if I wanted to be featured in their magazine. They explained the audience, the coverage and the ‘celebrity business’ sponsor. I would be happy to and then they told me the charge for being published. I’d be happy to pay; they wanted to carry out an interview and pull together a load of content I’d give them. It seemed promising and wanted me to setup a call with their Director.

It got sticky when I asked them for a PO so I’d be able to invoice them for my time. To pull together the content they wanted, to put the time aside for preparation, meetings and interviews would take about a day and a half.

Apparently this ‘isn’t the way it’s done’ and ‘we don’t pay you’.

Isn’t it strange how people drive marketing now?
