I’m not a fan of large companies who, when selling me a service, tell me they’re ‘working with’ me. They’re not. If I pay for a service they’re working for me.
This is where there needs to be a shift in learning and development. I’ve got bored of talking about moving from a shopkeeper to an engineer but it’s still an important issue for most learning teams; are you a partner helping analyse problems (working with), or producing a product (working for).
- What do the business want?
- What does the business really need?
- What do you want to offer?
- What do you need to offer?
Ultimately, is what you’re being asked to do, what the people in the organisation thinks is needed? If not, it doesn’t matter…it won’t stick.
