Expert tease

The image shows text that reads "EXPERT TEASE" displayed in blue letters against a blurred background with what appear to be light-colored chess pieces or similar game pieces scattered behind it. The word "EXPERT" is in solid blue while "TEASE" appears to be outlined.

I got some feedback from a close family member recently about something I’d written about learning and modern technologies.

They know the area I work in and we have great conversations about how the world of work and learning is changing. Their context when we talk about learning is instruction in the army, directing people to do work as part of their career and work. Learning to them is about classrooms, teaching, and telling.

They used to be an expert in their sphere when they worked, built through years of experience. They, of course, don’t recognise themselves as an expert. They called me an expert and I don’t recognise myself as such either.

When do you become an expert, and when do you know?
