Limitless data

Burst of bright blue binary digits radiating from a black background, with bold white text reading “LIMITLESS DATA.”

I saw an image recently which showed what was on TV 50 years ago this week. There were only three channels – in the UK at least – and two of them had a ‘closedown’ in the afternoon. From 2-4pm your TV options were limited to one channel.

Looking at the image for 40 years ago there was another channel in the UK although it only began transmitting later in the afternoon. The closedown was replaced with pages from Ceefax. Slightly more options and the beginning of data and digital services.

Now, there are dozens of channels available without subscription, not including the availability of streaming video from around the world. The options are limitless.

Every generation has differing experiences of media and entertainment. Each generation also has differing experience in the workplace and the explosion of data and information isn’t just built in the TV world. Look at the systems we had 50 and 40 years ago and the ways we worked and learned. Ids it any wonder certain processes and procedures were built the way they were?

Limitless access to data and information means that learning MUST be more innovative in its support
