Winging it

The image shows the phrase "WINGING IT" displayed in bold blue text. The words "WINGING" appear in large, solid blue capital letters at the top, while "IT" is shown below in a blue outline style. The text is set against a blurred white feather across an orange hued background.

I was speaking with someone recently and the phrase ‘winging’ it came up. If you’re not aware, it’s a distinctly English idiom: To do or try to do something without much practice or preparation.

I’ve done it a few times and would guess most of us have and think we get away with it.

When the people around you can hear and – afterwards – see the feathers left behind, you’ll realise you didn’t.

Preparation can be annoying but practice is good practise.
