Conference things

First day at the Learning Technologies and Exhibition yesterday and here is a list of the key phrases and points which have stayed with me through the day:

The privilege of being at the conference and hearing first hand from people can’t be underestimated. The opportunity of hearing from people, face to face, through conversation, needs to be seized.

Tech is moving us on at a pace we had no idea of. For example, I took a photo of a slide, asked ChatGPT to review and analyse it. I then asked what it suggested in respect of L&D in 2025/26 and got a valid, reflective and robust response. All of this, from image to final result in less than a minute. Once functions know how to do this with content, what’s your purpose?

Change isn’t coming, it’s here. You can’t afford to ignore it. Stuff is happening around you, technology is moving and organisations aren’t happy with what you, and they, did before. This is the fundamental shift from before.

People will forego the prospect of a lunch to talk and listen to others discussing compliance and mandatory training.

People still use images and graphics of ‘men’ when they mean ‘people: be better guys, and it is guys who do this.

Our industry is smart, really smart but common sense isn’t common knowledge. Just because you think something is simple and accepted, it doesn’t mean it is new for the next cohort coming through. This applies to solutions too; something which didn’t work might well now – contexts change.

I’m less in the conference and more in the exhibition today – thoughts from that tomorrow.
