That doesn’t mean ‘nothing’ in the literal sense; I’ll still happily spend hours on screens for dopamine hits but these will involve gaming, movies, and finishing TV box sets. I’ll happily be scrolling through my phone taking pictures of my grandson on days out, as well as getting the audiobook I’ve been stuck on finally finished.
This doing nothing is an intentional pause from work.
We’ve got some big things happening in the next few months and I need the brain space to be creative.
The best ideas always come to me when I’m not working; the irony of having an idea in the shower where I can’t write it down, or when I’m pushing my grandson on the swing and can’t write it down isn’t lost on me.
Don’t be afraid to ‘do nothing’. You might think it’s nothing but it’s the space your brain needs to wander, wonder and knit half-formed thoughts into fresh ideas.
