Take a guess

In this lecture, Richard Feynman demonstrates how we look for a new law:

Guess >>> Compute the Consequences >>> Compare results to nature, experiment, experience

How many learning ‘laws’ do we test this way to prove they’re not wrong?

It’s the first day of the CIPD Festival of Work today. When people at the event present to you their rules, laws, theories, and ideas, ask them to demonstrate how they’ve compared their results to others to prove that their idea isn’t false.

Then look at the comparators they’ve used and check them back. How good are their guesses?
