Self-isolated and remote from work means people will have more opportunity than ever to learn online new or better ways of working.
How many people are really going to do that?
People will have learnt the transactional things to work in a different way – IT connections and system access – but the more esoteric and intrinsic like prioritising, building in more moving breaks, etc are less likely.
How many people will start to learn a new language, learn to cook, or take up cross-stitch. How many will be disciplined enough to continue?
I have often thought that without the structures of the office people would struggle. It makes me think of the “papier-mâché Mephistopheles” from Conrad’s Heart Of Darkness.
