Many people love sunflowers because of their colour and reflection of sunshine.

To me, sunflowers are sad. When they flower, they signal the end of summer. Their purpose in flowering so late is to take advantage of the autumn so their seeds can propogate in the cooler soil.

Don’t assume totemic icons mean the same to everyone, even if you believe they’re universally accepted.
