Hashtag culture

The insidious presence of the hashtag (#) in everything we do is beginning to frustrate me. Designed to make things easier to find, I’m now seeing posts, blogs, images and videos being marketed with dozens of hashtags to try and generate traction.

I’m finding I’m doing it myself too. I started listing hashtags on a recent blog post and realised that I was just adding to the noise.

Does it help adding lots of hashtags to a piece of content? Probably if you’re looking for new readers.

Does it look professional? Definitely not.

Am I going to continue adding them? Maybe, but in moderation.
