Appreciation/Depreciation

I’ve used the word ‘value’ in over 60 posts on this blog but, until now, had never used the word ‘depreciation’.

The blog posts I wrote in 2011 don’t have the same value as the more recent ones. It’s not necessarily that they say much that’s different – they are written in a less mature voice – but that I’ve learnt that the posts now have a high rate of depreciation. Posts now are sparks that are hot, bright, and temporary.

Some have a longer tail; they burn longer but all, will at some point, disappear. The older posts burnt very dimly, for a very short period of time.

Understanding how something will depreciate as you create it matters; make sure you invest the right amount in it at the right time, not flog it until you squeeze every bit of life out of it.
