People ask me to speak at events and I always recommend women to speak instead of me.
This quote, by Anna Kendrick resonated:
“There’s [a film I’m considering] now where I have to wait for all the male roles to be cast before I can even become a part of the conversation.”
ANNA KENDRICK – GLAMOUR MAGAZINE 2015
If you’re planning events, don’t cast them like this.
This is the difference between being non-sexist and anti-sexist. Being non-sexist you can tell people about the balance you have and the large number of women speakers, but likely not a balance. Being anti-sexist you invite women speakers first so you are always weighted towards more women speakers.
Non-sexist is passive; anti-sexist is active. Be active.
