Emotional detachment

I like Seth Godin’s writing but have to disagree with the thinking behind his recent piece on detachment and commitment.

In it he says:

Working professionals develop emotional detachment. It’s the only way to thrive in the work.

Seth Godin

I thrive by being emotionally engaged with the work. The focus on the work and the people I’m doing it for come FROM my emotional commitment. If I wasn’t emotionally engaged I’d just be completing tasks. And that’s no fun.
