Some people have asked, after Monday’s post about nothing for free, about how to get around being pursued.

I have two solutions. The first is to set an Unsubscribe folder in your Inbox. Next, create a rule that any email with ‘subscribe’ or ‘unsubscribe’ in the body should be sent automatically into that folder. Check it once a day to make sure there’s nothing you don’t need.

The second is to have an account where you direct people if you know you’ll not want to be followed up. Mine is nevercheck@******.com. I use it mostly when I’m at the till in a shop and they’re expected to catch people’s emails as part of the sales process.

Yes, it’s a game and probably more than a little petty, but it works.
