I’m on a panel at an event in the next couple of weeks and I was asked why it is so crucial that more men get on board to support women in the corporate world.
Here’s a brief summary of what I said:
Simply, it’s not just a women’s issue; it is a business issue. The evidence is clear – companies with more diverse leadership teams perform better and are more innovative. It will create more participative leadership which create the capacity where women can shine. It can become a strategic priority. Use the Gender Pay Gap recording to start acting and look beyond the mean and median data to see what happens when recruiting senior talent. Monitor the split of men and women being recommended by recruiters, the split of men and expressing interest, applying, being shortlisted, being interviewed, and being appointed.
I’m scratching the surface and would be keen to take your opinions into the panel.
What do you think are the benefits of men supporting women in the corporate world?
I’ll go away and reflect on this, but the term that immediately springs to mind is unconscious bias.
