I have been a keen user of Twitter/X over the years but, as I’ve said before, it’s becoming more and more unusable.
For example, there was a tweet – or is it now a post? – from someone the other day which had, below it, a button next to this message:
Show probable spam
So Twitter/X has identified spam and given you the option to see it or not. I suppose that’s a good thing and a solution to the problem.
But it’s not.
The problem isn’t about showing spam, but allowing spam accounts to be registered and post spam messages.
This post, however, isn’t about Twitter/X but about how L&D approaches performance. Effective L&D shouldn’t be a spam filter but helping to diagnose the problem, i.e. the registration issue. Modern L&D understands the problem is being demonstrated as a second or third level effect and effective analysis of what is happening to cause these effects is needed. I mentioned the problem with TNA last week and smart people realised that it’s Needs Analysis but framed by whatever the first word is:
- Development
- Talent
- Performance
- Cultural
- Org Health
This is probably treading on the toes of the Organisational Development people, but successful L&D is more than spam filters.
