I had a simply superb conversation this week with a group of people talking about demand and need. I won’t go into details, but the idea that demand and need from the top aren’t what is identified through the organisation creates tensions between strategies.
This is endemic within the learning space too. We’re learning professionals so we have to produce ‘learning’. We’re learning professionals so senior managers assume we need to produce ‘learning’. The people we work with in our organisations assume we create ‘learning’.
What people need is something else though. It’s performance support. just in time and just for me interventions, a breadth of activity to provide contextual assistance to help people perform better.
Is the demand on you the same as the needs you meet? Let me know in the comments?
