Positive Negative

"Positive Negative" in white text over a blurred image of colourful AA batteries.

I was presenting the other day and one of the early slides I put up asks the following:

What’s wrong with measurement in Learning and Development right now?

It’s deliberate in its language – I want to know what the issues, concerns and challenges are which practitioners, managers and leaders face. Yesterday I posted about vanity metrics and pretty much everyone agreed.

The positive part of me thinks I might want to make it a less challenging question instead, e.g.:

What opportunities exist to enhance measurement in Learning and Development?
How can we improve the effectiveness of measurement in Learning and Development?
How can we make measurement more meaningful in Learning and Development?

I’m interested in your thoughts. Should we be direct in acknowledging there are gaps in the way we do things, or should we take a more appreciative approach? Let me know in the comments.
