18 months

Bold red text reading "EIGHTEEN MONTHS" overlays a blurred calendar background showing numbers including 18, 19, 20 and 21.

I was chatting with someone recently about writing posts and we were discussing my protest. They asked how often I go back and read back through old posts. The answer is, of course, it depends. If I’m looking at writing on a topic I do a check to see when I’ve mentioned it before and make sure I’m not just repeating myself.

This did, however, prompt me to look through my posts sequentially – something I’ve not done for a long time.

What stood out was that it would appear that the cycle of me identifying a topic and then writing about it again is, on average, eighteen months. Once I’ve written a post on a topic, expect further posts between six and twelve months later.

I need to dig into why this might be and a few thoughts are formulating:

  • Posts are driven by external events, e.g. conferences or exhibitions
  • My thinking takes that time to aggregate and sift effectively
  • People bring topics back to me for discussion in that cycle

Or maybe there’s nothing new in my thinking and I’m just recycling?
