Storytellers

The image shows an open book with pages curved to form a heart shape. The word "STORYTELLERS" is prominently displayed in large white text at the bottom of the image. The background is dark, which makes the creamy pages of the book and the bold text stand out. The image has a soft, slightly blurred focus.

There were a few stories from presenters at LT UK last week. They all had impact – they’re relational and people can look at them and place themselves into the situation.

The ones which resonated with me created a space, and filled it with detail. This means numbers, data, and quantitative information.

There were a few which focused on facts only – especially in the exhibition floor – and these were, I’m sorry to say, boring.

There were many which weaved narratives and created what if and what will scenarios. Great creative thought but lacking critical analysis.

Tell stories which are

a) based in fact and data but

b) weave around these facts and tell what happened and what it meant.

It’s a skill and an art, but like all skills, can be learnt.
