Real collaboration is rare

A blurred image of colorful game pieces arranged in a group, featuring the words "REAL COLLABORATION IS RARE" prominently displayed in large, bold red text.

I have to repeat this – I first raised it about a year ago.

Stop saying COLLABORATION when you mean COOPERATION or COORDINATION.

They’re not the same thing.

COLLABORATION is creating, building, and sharing towards a SHARED GOAL.
Same outcomes. Same measures. Same wins and losses. That’s rare.

Most of the time you’re not collaborating.
You’re cooperating. Or coordinating.

COOPERATION is supporting others to achieve THEIR goals while recognising YOURS are different.

COORDINATION is aligning activities so you don’t trip over each other. Nothing more.

COLLABORATION? That’s another level.
It needs shared levers, shared indicators, shared motives, and timing that fits.

That’s why it’s so rare.
That’s why using the word casually hides the real difficulty of doing it.
