Expertise Extraction

TIME’s report on Oracle’s mass layoffs is a warning sign. The story is not just “AI replaces workers” – it is more specific than that.

Employees were reportedly asked to document workflows and train internal AI systems. Some were then laid off, losing income, healthcare security, visa stability, and unvested stock.

That changes the ethics of workplace AI.

When people are asked to codify their judgement and hand over tacit knowledge, the organisation is not just improving productivity. It is transferring human expertise into corporate assets.

If workers help build the system, they should not be treated as disposable afterwards.
