An oxymoron is a combination of contradictory or incongruous words. My favourite exemplar is this:
The military intelligence
Megadeth – Hangar 18
Two words combined that can’t make sense
I saw an L&D oxymoron the other week, mandatory engagement. Really? Can you mandate that people are engaged?
A few more I discovered:
- Scheduled reflection
- Measurable culture change
- Completed learning
- Frictionless learning
- Psychologically safe training
- Authentic content
- Agile curriculum
Some are just sloppy language and some reveal something real about how we talk ourselves into believing the activity is the outcome.
Which ones sting? Which ones would you add?
