I was at the Canary Wharf light show the other day and one of the pieces physically took my breath away.
Strings of lights were hanging down and pulsing at different frequencies and colours. It took a few moments to start and when it did there was a truly collective sense of community and (dare I say) enlightenment.
It seems to have been because people felt emotionally connected to the work. I can remember exactly how I felt at the time, even now, over a week later.
L&D isn’t art in the same way. However, creating an emotional connection is critical to our work if we ever want to help people to learn.
