Placebo courses

Seth Godin’s blog post yesterday got me thinking about the placebo effect of training courses.

We’re asked to run courses because ‘they work’. Is it the course which is really working or the effect of making the attention of someone, bringing them outside of their work environment, to discuss, reflect and ideate amongst themselves?

  1. This is so true. I’m about to record my slot for Learning Now TV and was going to talk about what role learning and development has when we’ve never had more opportunities to learn for ourselves. I reckon triggering self reflection is possibly the biggest.
