Last year I wrote how I wouldn’t speak at events unless there was an equal split by gender, or representative split by ethnicity.

Two things happened yesterday which made me think that there is still need for change. Firstly, I saw this tweet:

I obviously challenged it.

Secondly, I got a message from someone who has been recording a series of podcasts and they brought diversity up at the start of the process after we discussed my approach.

The organisers took it to heart. Most people of the people involved were women (which made them look for some men), and they actively looked for BAME participants, and were successful.

Change can happen.
