Anti-social media

After the defeat of England by Italy last night, there were some highly offensive tweets made about some of the England players. One tweet I saw was picked up by some Twitter users who found the person’s Instagram account, as well as their LinkedIn accounts.

The person concerned deleted the tweet, but made no apology, and systematically deleted their social media presence and disabled their accounts. This wasn’t before their employer was tagged, emailed and challenged over the comments the person had made.

Online is different to the real world. Your footprints last forever and everything you’ve written, published or shared might be saved somewhere.

Before you post pause for a moment and consider what people will say about this tomorrow, next month, or in 5 years time.
