Just use a QR code

The office of the Prime Minister in the UK tweeted out a QR code the other week with the accompanying phrase, ‘Innovation means growth’.

A few thoughts:

  • QR codes aren’t innovative – they’ve been around since 1994.
  • Sending out a QR code without a link makes it difficult to access on a mobile phone.
  • When you’re able to access the link it takes you to a site where you have to download Adobe Aero to see what it means.

If you’re designing access to learning products like this, please stop.

The message, whatever it is, will now be diluted with the faff people have top go through to be able to see or hear what was being promoted. You will lose credibility with your workforce who are less likely to trust you and your technology any more.

I had no idea what it says as I couldn’t be bothered to invest time and energy into finding out. It seems it creates 1990s style Wordart in 3D.

Yep, I was thinking the same too.
