Apparently, people don’t have time and space to learn at work.
I don’t think this is fully describing the problem.
People are learning through every mistake they make, in every conversation they have, in every process they finish. They’re learning from everything they read, hear and watch. They’re learning from the reactions and emotions they feel throughout the day, and anchoring thoughts and behaviours which they can call on again.
I think not having time and space is a projection of managers not releasing people to ‘do’ learning. It’s a reflection of L&D functions who are being asked to cut back on formal programmes. It’s a marketing ploy to sell ‘micro’ learning which doesn’t get in the way of productivity.
Learning at work is ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and smart L&D recognises their role is to identify the trends, changes in direction, and common movements which work best to help people develop and produce.
Use your time better in L&D and create the space for people to reflect on the good things they’re learning.
