I wrote an article for Training Journal a few months back which talked about the skills L&D need for AI entering the L&D space.
What has happened with the technology is that it’s has got better, faster, and more professional; the pace of the creation of AI generated images, audio, and video is mesmerising.
Interestingly, I’m not seeing, or hearing, of such a speedy increase in the skills of the people using them and there seems to be a few different groups at play here.
- Some of the L&D community are getting better at prompting and we’re seeing those people recognise how to get better quality output.
- Some of the L&D community are trying the tools, not understanding the prompting and getting similar output as a result.
- Some of us are trying the newer tools and getting the initial ‘wow’ and working out how to bring it into the workplace.
- Some of us aren’t looking at the tools at all and don’t see where we’ll bring them in.
The adoption curve is not constant, undulates, and inconsistent.
Start having honest conversations about these tools and where your skill gaps are now, and – more importantly – where they’re going to be in three years time.
You can’t afford not to.
