I was reading a report which Martin Couzins identified the other week. In the 2024 LearnOps Trends & Insights Report, the authors – Cognota – highlight a growing emphasis on aligning L&D strategies with organisational objectives.
Alignment doesn’t equal integration, which is here I think L&D should be in terms of business, but if this is still an issue, we need to so some real work.
When asked what challenges L&D face in aligning L&D objectives with corporate vision and goals?, 2 in 5 cite limited budget and resources, and 3 in 10 suggest they don’t have direction from their leadership.
If you want to be L&D to part of the business performance, ask.
If you want data to track performance, ask.
If you want to understand this better, ask.
If not, L&D will become the novelty place we go to to spend time away from work and pretend we’re making a difference in the workplace.
