Trend setting

Text on a chalkboard reads "TREND SETTING" in bold, stylized fonts, with a blurred background giving a creative effect.

For the last four and a half years we have produced a weekly list where we thank people who have influenced our thinking, work, and activity. It’s a simple activity; recognising the people who have engaged shows we’re taking note and publicly expressing appreciation.

What I didn’t realise was how much of a ‘thing’ it might become. People check the list each week to see who’s on it, people use it for networking and some people just come to see the gif we post with it. What I see is similar lists being posted on LinkedIn by so many other people, recognising others and referencing the list we do.

Having an understanding of the unintended consequences of your activity is an essential measurement tool. It’s a second level effect which exists out your data capture of inputs and outputs. It happens AFTER you’ve probably lost interest in counting but demonstrates the outcomes and impact of your work.

Are you starting trends? How do you know?
