What Happened When I Started Writing for the Algorithm

A blurred image of a notepad with a pencil, featuring the words "WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I STARTED WRITING FOR THE ALGORITHM" prominently displayed in large, bold black text.

It’s been a week since I changed how I write my daily posts. A small shift, but worth reflecting on.

I’ve kept to alternate days – Monday, Wednesday, Friday – and deliberately shortened the paragraphs. Not just short. Really short. Mobile-readable. Algorithm-friendly. And really uncomfortable to write!

They take longer to prepare now; the editing, images, titles, etc all require more thought.

The result?

Views are up by nearly 50%.

Engagement is up with more comments, reactions, reposts, and more off-platform conversation too.

Blog subscriptions have increased, and more people are actually opening and reading the posts; again also up by around 50%.

It’s early days, but it looks like this might be a useful way to play with the system. At least until it changes again.
