Glasses wearer

I’ve worn spectacles pretty much my whole life.

I had a squint corrected when I was an infant and since then have dealt with short-sightedness, astigmatism, retinal surgery and ageing, which have meant dozens of pairs of glasses and contact lenses.

Then a couple of years ago, I had cataract surgery on both eyes. It corrected almost everything, and my eyesight is better than it has ever been. The only caveat is the need for reading glasses. Yet, my face feels wrong without them, and I find myself wearing my readers when I don’t need them. 50+ years of glasses wearing, and my ears feel naked without some spectacle arms laying on them.

Having spent years experiencing the way things are done, a shock to how things happen, and it’ll take years of unlearning to work out what’s best. It happens with change at work. Sometimes the old way still feels like part of the job, even when it no longer does anything.
