Through the line

One of the best bits of advice I got at Parkrun, when sprinting for the finish, is to run ‘through’ the line.

Not ‘to’ the line but through it. There’s a finishing funnel that means you have space to slow down afterwards, once you’ve achieved what you need to do.

We do too many things to the line, slowing down before we’re finished and missing out on what might be a great performance because the end was in sight.

Never work to a deadline, specification or expectation. Work through it to delight yourself and the people you’re with.
